Travel Lovers: ....A Few of my Favorite Things..... part 2

travelloversva:

The All-Inclusive Caribbean resort is DEFINITELY one of my favorite things. Not sure what you want to drink? order 2 different things. Why not? Glide over to the swim-up pool bar and order 2 rum punches. Drink one on your way back to your lounge chair and then you have a fresh one when you…

Travel Lovers: .....A few of my favorite things....part 1

travelloversva:

We all have our favorite things, don’t we? I thought I’d share some of mine as they relate to travel. I’m asked a lot “where is your favorite place”? It’s actually a difficult question to answer. I didn’t start traveling much until the mid-80’s. Geez, I’m dated myself. Anyway, I learned quickly…

Travel Lovers: When to Go - when NOT to go!

travelloversva:

We get asked a lot “when is the best time to go to _____”. Unfortunately, we don’t get asked this question enough. People select a destination and a time that fits into their work schedule and it may be the worst time to go there. Internet sites won’t tell you that you’re getting ready to make a…

Travel Lovers: Laura's Thursday - Lake Como, Milan and More...

travelloversva:

From Venice we’re heading over into the Lombardy region of Italy in the north, boarding Switzerland. The best way to get around Italy in general is by train. The European rail system is incredible and they go everywhere with ease. This northern area is full of beautiful lakes and picturesque…

Travel - Try to Relax

One of the most difficult things to do while traveling is to relax. Flights are delayed or cancelled, you can’t get a good cell signal, children are running around loose, the person in the security line in front you you is taking FOREVER, your hotel room isn’t ready……. etc. It’s crazy!! But what do you do? Let’s face it, you’re at the mercy of the airlines, the hotels or the trains, BUT, you can do your part to make things smoother for yourself.

  • Be early for flights even if you know you don’t need to be there 2 hrs early
  • Have a good book, magazines, a game - something to keep you entertained
  • Pack snacks so delays don’t mess up mealtime too badly
  • Keep your airline phone number on your cell - call it to rebook you if your flight is cancelled. It’s usually faster than getting back in line at the ticket counter
  • If traveling with a companion, pack some clothes in their bag. If your is delayed, you still have clothes.
  • Except the worst, hope for the best. You’ve heard this before but it works.
  • I expect 2 bad things to happen, if I only get one - I’m ahead.
  • Bring earplugs - they cut the sound of screaming kids, whining adults and other stressful noise. Plus they won’t get stolen like noise reducing headphones.
  • If all else fails, deep breaths  -3 of them, in through the noise and out through the mouth. And keep your fingers crossed.

Happy Traveling Everybody!! Until next time, Laura

Travel Lovers: Thursday with Laura - In Italy

In the heart of Tuscany lies Florence, the home of art, beauty and shopping galore. The Duomo (cathedral) is in the city center and all other buildings must be shorter than it’s dome. Climb to the top for breathtaking views but the stairs are steep and many.

You can get to any of the…
